I wish I had gotten a bigger jarThis canister holds the contents of a 1 pound coffee brick with a little room to spare. Easy to fill even if there is a little coffee left over from the previous fill.The cover is secured with a formed wire closure tab and bail fastener. This fastener can be operated one handed. This means you can open the canister with one hand, scoop out the coffee with the other and promptly close the lid with the free hand to better preserve the freshness of the coffee. I did not understand this from the description and reviews but it has turned out to be a very nice feature. It takes less than 10 seconds to open, scoop, and close at an ordinary pace with a little practice.The date recording feature is simple to operate and seems to work just fine.The seal is a rubber, vinyl, or similar material gasket with a tab that fits into a groove in the body of the cover. I have found that it seals very well. I only smell coffee when I open the canister or immediately after opening it and that seems correct to me. The seal can easily be removed. From what I see, I believe this seal can be replaced, repaired, and cleaned. I have not done this myself so I can not say for certain. A replaceable seal should meaningfully extend the service life of this canister. It is a wear item and the part most likely to fail from ordinary use. I put up some pics of the seal. If anyone comes up with a replacement part number for the seal, please put it up in a comment or picture!I note that several reviews criticized the freshness seal. I suspect some of those sealing problems may have been related to improper fitment of the seal from the factory or after some use. A misfit is easy to correct by gently pressing the tab of the gasket into the groove in the body of the cover. It might be hard to detect a misfit visually because the underside of the cover and the gasket are both black in color. A close inspection should reveal the problem if it is related to fitment of the seal.I bought this canister for myself and I am not being compensated for this review. I like the canister and am happy with the purchase. I think it is a thoughtful design with suitable materials at a good price. I think I gave $16 for it.If the seal, closure, or canister fail in the next year, I will update this review.Sturdy containerAwesome container.Great for fresh ground coffee. Love the built in dating calendar on the lid. Sturdy design.It is so cute on my counter. I am keeping my coffee in it - keeps the light and air out to insure freshness..these are of a nice quality, easy to open and lock. We have 4 of them for our variety of different coffees. I had vinyl letter decals made for each one. They fit nicely in the wall cabinet on the second shelf and are not too heavy to handle even when filled.Container showed up with dent in it. The container is just a container with a sealed lid. There is nothing special about this product. Looking it over it is the same container I use already in my kitchen that I bought at Walmart for 5 bucks. It appears I paid for the color black and a rickety date thing. I’m ok with that it looks better than the stainless steel ones I have and it seals (remember the air in the container is still there you are just trapping it in there). The score is for the dent.Update: this is not airtight at all. The smell of coffee everywhere. To verify I put incense in it and locked the lid down. The smoke was pouring out of the can. 0 starsIt works. It looks nice. But when you use it, it feels like, if you dropped it, it would easily dent, or if somehow the metal closer caught on something, it would bend. The build quality just feels on the flimsy side. When you compare it with other airtight containers, this one is not as good. Also, it does NOT hold a pound of coffee beans. I holds 1lb minus about half a cup.Very nice container that looks quite good quality. Unfortunately, the coffee beans we put inside lose their freshness after a few days. Our cupboard smells coffee, but the beans don't and this happens rather quickly. These containers may be good for cookies or other goods that can't lose smell, but certainly not coffee in any form. Disappointment.There is nothing special about this product you can get this at Walmart for 5 bucks. I've purchased other similar products before of far better quality and construction thickness to thinLooks like a biscuit tin but seems to do the job. Used for a handy but small supply of ground beans -- easier for guests as the rest is kept in the freezer.
