I love this for getting out the door to get to work. You get hipster-style coffee house coffee and a mug to travel in. My only gripe is that the mug doesn’t keep the coffee hot for as long as some of my other mugs, but that’s usually not a problem because I’m done drinking it by the time I’m done driving to wherever.Best over cup brewing system to date! I almost did not buy it due to the negative reviews, but I had a good feeling about the Gator Coffee Mug and I was right. I searched Amazon for several simple brewing system before buying the Gator and found multiple engineering flaws in the designs. The Gator looked like it had a solid build and used quality materials for coffee brewing. Again, best product, fast brewing, and fair pricing as well. I highly recommend it! ?Exactly what I wanted. I love itThese are great coffee cups and filters - they don’t leak when knocked over (if closed), and keep coffee hot for ages. The pour over filter works very well, too. Coffee is always great with this, and easy to make.My two quibbles - the metal cone at the bottom of the inside of the filter has a very sharp edge, and I’ve cut myself on it several times while washing it. That is not great, but I’ve switched from hand washing to using a soft brush. The other issue is that replacement lids are very hard to come by - we now have two regular users of these mugs in the family and over the years have ended up using broken lids as replacement lids are no longer available (we’ve contacted the company several times about this with no luck). We ended up buying more mugs just to have replacement lids.Overall a very good coffee experience, and we’ve been using these daily for many years. Just be wary of the filters and gentle to the lids!I purchased this product for my husband to use while camping. He was surprised and impressed by the functionality and portability. It's easy to clean and works great! No more instant coffee for my happy camper, he enjoys his pour-over no matter where we go.The filter works great! The cup is a good size and I like the texture that makes it a little grippy but easy to clean. I did have the lid on and the cup full of coffee and accidentally knocked it over and the lid did not hold Because I have others that do hold and I like that feature I tried it again ( already made a mess) just to see if it was user error but the design of the seal on the lid only holds it for basic sloshing, not tip overs. The one thing I don’t like about this compared to yeti is the little hole on the center of the lid. It makes it hard to drink. I don’t really like the way it has the snap closure for the other sippy part, either. It’s secure but bulky. It does keep hot things hot and cold things cold for a long time. I think it’s a good deal with the coffee filter. Nice to have aroundWhat a true delight. Once again Coffee Gator has demonstrated their commitment to better coffee. My commitment is enjoying better coffeeFor many years I've used a $5 plastic travel mug. Invariably, by 9a break, my coffee is very cold and unappealing. BUT enter Coffee Gator!Classy styling, no shame in my game feel and look. I was cautious my first use since there have been reports of leaking. Well, it's NOT a design issue, and the "fix" (if it could be called this) is very very simple. The gasket can "roll" during assembly for sale in China OR even when cleaning back at home. Just moosh the gasket a bit so the gasket (U shaped) is facing smooth side (read bottom of U) rests against the lid and the open "U" faces the sides of the mug when sealed. Oh my, wordy for sure, but hey... When I clean my travel mug I also clean the edges of the lid... Bacteria ya knowAh, performance... You guessed it. I fill my travel mug with hot water to preheat it. Brew my blend into the mug and at 0900 amazingly it's still pleasantly hot. All without lugging a thermos - 2 1/2 hours after brewing. I do pre-heat this mug using boiled water, an extra step but rewarding hours later. MB even half past.No borosilicate glass here, just well engineered steel... Life's adventures are waiting each day... Journey with confidence... The destination remains assuredThe temps here are in the 30s. I do sit outside during break. The mug is impressiveThe filter is one of the very best in the industry. Not one but several layers of stainless steel type "mesh" that reduces the fines in the bottom to a mere thimble. I grind my coffee as per their recommendation between 4-5 (for drip or pour over) using the Coffee Gator Mill measuring 23g fresh beans. (My electric auto grinder, while fast and noisier at 4a than pm, does generate significantly more powder because of manufacturing slop than Coffee Gator's manual grinder. Not every life revolves around manual grinding, my children have their own, a luxury I assure) This filter does not absorb essential oils as paper filters do and therefore maximizes the flavor profile similar to the French Press proclivity toward the robust. It's a refreshing design which is engineered and executed well. To clean I turn it over the waste bin and tap, then rinse with water. My waste bin is a garden composter, there are other. About once a week I'll use a soft brush and detergent. I always air dry... Not a spot of rust nor mineral buildup.Originally I discovered this on their website. And in true Amazon mercenary fashion waited until... Yes! Sale price...YAY! After all is said and done (with British panache...) tally-hoQuiet ELEGANCEI am going to echo what others have said. This is fantastic for making a large cup of coffee in and is so easy to clean; much easier than a press. The lid is a little harder to clean, as the coffee and cream get trapped under the hinged areas of the two caps. However, it is definitely not a travel mug for a number of reasons. The first being that the lid just pushes in; it doesn’t secure. If you hold the cup upside down, the weight of the liquid pushes the lid off. The second is that it has a little rubber cap, which I guess acts as heat vent and to increase the flow. It wouldn’t take much for this to be knocked open in a bag. The third is that it’s too wide to comfortably hold while walking.Fortunately, I didn’t buy this as a travel mug. I bought it as an alternative to a French press, which it most definitely is.Was very disappointed with this item so I'm returning today. The overall quality of the item is pretty good but as a travel mug this was useless. The lid leaks and even if it didn't it's very hard to drink out off, I definitely could not walk and drink at the same time. It doesn't travel well, as in it couldn't sit in my car holder and I found it awkward to hold when moving around as it slid out of my hands quite easily. My favourite part was the filter. I could only put a little water I'm at a time so it was very time consuming, but the filter was excellent. Really disappointed. This is a good coffee cup but there could be some improvements: 1) the filter, when I’m pouring water into the filter I can’t see how much water I’ve pouring into the cup and I like to leave space for milk. Also, it’s easy to pour too much and over fill the cup. 2) the issue of the filter once I’ve finished using it. I’ve been using a travel cafetière at work and I’m not able to put it aside. Ideally the filter could be designed to stay inside the cup. It doesn’t have to go all the way to the bottom, like a plunger. there are single use/throw away filter cups where the filter is at the top.I bought this because I like the size and the materials it’s made off seem sturdy enough to last quite a long time.As others have said, very slow to filter so you need to dribble in the hot water. But the main drawback for me, given that this sells itself as a ‘travel’ mug, is the fact that it’s such an untidy bundle. Unless I’m missing something, and I’m kinda hoping I am, you have to carry the mug, filter and lid as three separate fiddly bits which are easy to get dirty and damaged. You’d think the designers would have thought of a way of clipping things together for transport. It’s also expensive, which I wouldn’t mind if it was worth the money. All it needs to do it does very well, it brews ground coffee into a travel mug and keeps it very hot for a long time. The lid is not screw down because its a travel mug not a flask so dont lie it down in a bag or such like without expecting some leakage eventually, used properly the lid stays tightly in place and nothing leaks.Great piece of kit if you want decent coffee on the go or to use at work.
