Great waffle maker, especially for the price. It doesn't have removable plates so it's not machine washable, but that's why I got it (lower price). The waffles cook very well & even. YummyWe use this 2-3x month to make dessert waffles. It serves the purpose fine!No bells and whistles, no frills, just a solidly-built waffle iron. If you're looking for some crazy automatic gizmo with bluetooth, wifi, and a retina scanner, this is not it. This is what you need if you're old like me and need to replace the waffle iron that you got at your wedding in 1986 which died 34 years and 3 kids later. It's the kind where you pour the batter in, slam the lid, and the waffle is ready when the light goes out. Dead simple. No issues with sticking, no extra noises, doesn't take up a lot of space, and you don't need a subscription to SkyNet or a degree in computer science to operate it.Having owned this model for a few years now, this is now the one I buy for other people. I get the feeling I'll be dead before I need another one.Bought this Waffle Make to replace one that was 30+ years old. It works very well, and waffles are not sticking, and come out easily. We pre-oiled the griddles prior to use. What is not evident in the advertisements is the extremely short cord; so beware that you will need to be within 2 feet of an outlet to use it. Also...not evident is the recommendation to avoid the use of spray oils. Overall...happy with the purchase. Ask me in 30 years if it was better than the old one it replaced.Well I am a little disappointed here. I specifically bought this to store it upright as it was advertised. It does not sit upright on its own. It will easily flip open. It also claims to have a "cord wrap" on the bottom but there is no such thing. At no point are you able to secure the power cord, which is really short. Also an odd design choice, instead of having the power cord lead out the back of the unit, it actually points inside the center of the device, making it awkward and worrisome to have this thing literally sitting on top of it's own power cord as it heats up. It's an odd choice they made. This is a cheaper waffle maker. I figured for as often as I'd use it, it was worth the risk.I read the instructions and made a waffle. The instructions say not to use spray cooking oil, so I did, because to heck with them. No one is brushing oil on these things anymore. The world did not end, and my waffle cooked up just fine. I made another too and it was just great. If you cook waffles correctly, the cleanup should be minimal. Still, it's hard to get this clean, as are all waffle makers. The instructions scream at you not to put running water over it, so I did that to because to heck with them. How else do you clean up oil off of it!? I see now why removable griddle plates are a good option for these things. For a basic waffle maker, this is totally fine. It cooks nicely and works well. I don't like the odd short cord, or the fact that you can't store it upright which I really needed to do. But it makes fine waffles. If you want a simple no frills waffle maker at a comparable price, this is the one for you. Just wait until the light goes out, add batter and watch over the maker for a few minutes until it is done to your preference. This is a strictly manual process and will not turn off automatically, fortunately it does not take long to bake. The thing that disappointed me was the vertical storage feature. When one does this the lid falls open about 2 inches, so leaves the cooking surface open to dust. You may want to cover with a bag or try wrapping the ac cord to keep the unit closed when stored vertically. If aesthetics bother you any, another model may be in order. No clear coat was applied after the molded pieces were cut off the sprue, so those areas are visible as flat black areas in a glossy finish, emphasizing the labor cutting measures used in assembly. In all, I am happy with the price performance, do watch for a sale as I have seen the price go up by a third, and other reviewers have mentioned prices close to what I got it for.As a side note, I noticed that America's Test Kitchen tried to review this with a group of others. This item did not even make the first cut as an authentic Belgian Waffle is supposed to be thicker.I am familiar with this Black and Decker belgian waffle maker; so this is the same one I had for many years. The two plastic screws on the sides that allows you to raise the lid fell out and I have to adjust the top. It still cooks the waffles but a bit of a nuisance. I'll just keep it as a back up, but I felt like it was time for a new one, Loving the new one now, it works perfectly. I suggest after clean before using, use a cooking spray and from then on I wipe it and keep it oiled after use. (this conditions it). Makes perfect brown waffles. Also, I do use Krusteaz light & crispy Belgian waffle mix, great stuffThe only thing I wish it had is a longer cord. And like others have said, a clsp to hold it closed when stored upright.Terrible.Box was damaged and taped up so poorly that I already knew the inside wasn’t going to be any better.Cleaned the inside and it was filthy! Ran a wet paper towel thru it, and so many black stains came on.Also, won’t stand like it’s suppose to! When placing it vertically, it opens up. Very loose. So disappointed. Didn’t even want to try it out cause of the filth. Only positive was that it came same day so I was pretty happy about that but huge disappointment when I opened the box. Definitely returning this ASAP!If you are like us and have never bought a waffle-maker before, buy this one, we love it. The reviews I read prior to buying any waffle-maker said that you'd need to try it a few times to get a properly cooked waffle but we've only used it a couple of time so far and each waffle came out perfect. They're crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I was worried that it would be difficult to clean, but it wipes clean easily with a damp cloth. The only con is that it doesn't stay entirely closed when sitting upright on the counter but that can be remedied by using a hair scrunchy around the handles.Makes awesome waffles been using it two weeks straight and always puts out amazing wafflesWaffles for breakfast lunch and dinner always good constant quality. Definitely recommended 10/10This was extremely disappointing! When I opened the shipping box, I noticed that the product’s box had been taped up. The tape was not neat so I suspected something was off.I decided to open it up even though it was a gift and I saw that there were a few cracks at the back joint and also there was a small chunk broken off in the same area. There were also some streaks on the steel itself that I couldn’t tell if they were fingerprint smudges or scratches.I didn’t feel comfortable gifting this and have to exchange for another product.I was a little disappointed in the quality of this product being a black and decker... i guess you get what you pay for and the amount of times we use it it’s perfect for us. The inner workings are perfect, the outer casing has imperfections which does not affect how the product can be used. I do appreciate that the item can be stored vertically (with the use of an elastic or long Velcro piece around the bulk, or around the clasp at the top-not included). It’s nothing fancy and could use many improvements but for a basic waffle maker, it works.
